St. Joseph was founded in 1886 with continued growth in the early years. In the 1930s the parish had recovered from the logging exodus and was growing again. By 1967, a steady increase in parishioners led to the construction of the parish's present structure, and in 2002 a new parish center with an Adoration Chapel was built.
Today’s 600+ registered families of St. Joseph share their faith with the Hayward community in many ways - through hospitality and the welcoming of visitors, strong youth Faith Formation, ministry to the homebound, sick, and elderly, and weekly radio broadcasts of the Sunday morning Mass.
At the near epicenter of the Diocese of Superior, St. Joseph Parish offers its space for many diocesan gatherings.
In 2022, St. Joseph became the central office location for our five parish cluster.
St. Joseph Church can be accessed all on one level from the parking lot.
The main worship space has a T-Coil Hearing Loop.
If needed, Ushers could lend you a set of headphones for an improved personal audio experience for Mass.

St. Joseph is such a popular patron. that we are one of eight parishes in the Diocese named after the earthly father of Jesus Christ. Although there is no written record of Joseph saying anything in Scripture, our tradition holds him in the highest of esteem as his lineage connects Jesus to the line of Kings (root of Jesse) and as he was the Head of the Holy Family.
St. Joseph has many titles like the workman, most just, most obedient, most strong, mirror of patience, hope of the sick, Light of Patriarchs, & Terror of Demons. He is often depicted holding the Christ child and a lily or tool for carpentry - like our statue on the altar.
