You may see some Secular Franciscans wearing the plain Tau Cross as a symbol of their profession. Others wear the Tau Cross with a hand on each side of the cross. One hand symbolizes Christ's hand, the other symbolizes the hand of St. Francis. Before he died, St. Francis received the stigmata, the wounds of Christ in his own body.
