Capital Campaign Building Fund Receives Local Support – The Northwoods New Life Resource Center, a pregnancy and family center located in Hayward recently received a $5,000 donation from the Local Knights of Columbus (KC’s) Council 6587. This contribution is to help New Life’s efforts to find and pay for a new Center location as they need to find a different home to provide their pregnancy and family support services. The Center’s current leased location on HWY 27 South has served them well for the past eight years, however, as in life, things change as a necessary move is inevitable in the near future. New Life is a Christian faith-grounded organization with the mission to support families in times of uncertainty, need, and beyond. This support often begins at pregnancy with medical and mentoring support which then turns into a supportive walk with the family to develop the needed parenting skills and life guidance. All services are provided free of charge. What kind of support is provided? New Life offers on the medical side-, pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, options education for an unplanned pregnancy, STI testing, and referrals to local health care providers. Pregnant women can meet weekly with a nurse to learn about their pregnancy as it develops. On the family side, we have volunteers who walk alongside the families and provide individual education in parenting, life skills, job skills, and much more. Monthly men’s and women’s support groups provide a place for clients to discuss and learn together. Individual and group bible studies are also offered. Through an Earn While You Learn approach, parents/families earn participation points to use in the Boutique to “purchase” needed supplies such as diapers and wipes, maternity clothing, hygiene products s and a wide array of infant and child clothing and gear.
Presently the Center is looking at properties to purchase or lease. The needs of the center are a facility is estimated at a minimum of 2500 square feet capable of providing: three small offices, three client rooms, medical - ultra sound room, conference room, baby boutique, laundry and sorting room, reception area, bathroom, and a small kitchen. Building new has discussed and is still an option, but the necessity of time is critical in addition to the existing financials.
The goal of the Capital Campaign is to raise $150,000 for a down payment on a permanent home. At present $12,000 has been donated. Having a home for the Center means they will be able to be continue to support a strong family life for mom and dad’s walking the road of parenting through parent education and other basic assistance.
