Letter:
Dear Friends in Christ: As the days grow shorter and winter approaches, I am drawn into reflection on how much our five parishes have grown and celebrated together since Eastertime. Fr. Karun, Sr. Felissa, Sr. Mary Rose, our Deacons, our staff and I have been particularly focusing on how we can be more intentional about unity within our Family of Parishes. It has been a joy to celebrate jubilees together at St. Francis Solanus (100 years of the church building), St. Philip (50 years of the church building), and Our Lady of the Lake Chapel at Victory Heights (100 years)! We now have a unified five parish website, bulletin, Facebook, Instagram, and even a Holy Day Mass schedule to provide as many different time options as possible throughout our five parishes. Whether you have noticed these changes or not, it is a great joy to me that our religious staff, parish leaders, and parishioners are continually leaning into and celebrating unity within our parishes!
As Advent approaches, we want to turn our focus toward inviting back the members of our parishes who have slipped away over time. With a foundation of unity across our five parishes, Fr. Karun and I have mapped out an Advent Homily Series to rekin dle the faith of our regular parishioners while also serving as an easy invite for you to share with friends and family who have a history of Sunday worship but may have fallen out of regular practice in the last years. Our five-parish-wide Journey to the Manger will offer weekly messages of hope as well as practical challenges to integrate our great faith into daily life. You can also expect special content on our website & social media to help you build intentional experiences with family and friends, while embracing opportunities to encounter Jesus beyond Sunday! Advent begins the weekend of Sunday, December 1st – right after Thanksgiving – so start dusting off your Advent wreath and thinking about which friends and neighbors you could invite to join you at Mass. Together, let’s all prepare to welcome Jesus into our hearts in a new and deeper way this Christmas! As we go forward, keep an eye on our unified website for resources and updates about our Journey to the Manger (haywardcatholic.org/advent) and keep Fr. Karun, Sr. Felissa, Sr. Mary Rose, Dcn. Dave, Dcn. Brian, all parish and school staff, and me in your prayers as we seek to serve you and your families here in this beautiful part of Northern Wisconsin in the Diocese of Superior. You can surely count on our prayers for you and your intentions!
